Ontario Natural Food Cooperative Advises How to Win OMAFRA Grant for Food Traceability

If you are doing anything in your food manufacturing or distribution operations around product traceability, you need to know about the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) funding that was announced this week – but you only have until July 24 to apply! That’s 6 weeks away – and there’s a fair bit to do to get your application together. This second round of funding from the Traceability Foundations Initiative (TFI) that has the intention of helping to improve food safety at Ontario companies and across the value chains to which they belong.

We blogged about the TFI grant earlier this week – but an exclusive, in-depth interview with a successful applicant of the grant will give you a more specific details of what to do – and not to do – in the OMAFRA application process, and what to expect after your application is submitted.

This candid Q&A interview with Boris Harmic, IT Manager at the Ontario Natural Food Cooperative, includes helpful tips on how his organization applied for – and won – a large TFI grant, in OMAFRA’s first round of funding – enough of a grant, in fact, to cover:

  • Most of the cost of their JustFoodERP software implementation
  • Some infrastructure improvements at their facility
  • Labour costs of their staff and consultants

Read the entire interview – an information-packed article you will not want to miss… that is if you want to take advantage of the grants for food traceability the Ontario government is handing out!
